Appreciation
To
the Global Women of the Church of the Brethren and the Church of the Brethren in Indianapolis, Indiana, Dr. James Lemons, Mr. & Mrs. Kelley Davis, The Second Presbeyterian Church and all our contributors for sponsoring some of our girls in school. Mike Perry of Lightning Struck Studios for recording our fundraiser CDs. And the volunteers who helped to keep our office in Indianapolis running in 2009. Please keep us in mind in 2010. We are still fighting. Thank you so much all of you and be blessed always.
The Problem:
Women oppressive and abusive traditions for example: FGM, women beating, domestic violence, verbal abuse and demeaning language, depriving girls of education, sexual abuse and rape, harassment at work, less pay for equal jobs and services, women trafficking, and child support negligence are all violations of human rights and have to stop.
If this is your first time to visit us and
you do not know what FGM is, below
is a pragrapgh for your information.
FGM (Female Genital Mutilation) or Women Circumcision is practiced openely or secretly in 28 countries around the world including: Uganda, Indonesia, Kenya, Australia, Canada, New Zealand, Nigeria, Somalia, Ethiopia, Sudan, and other countries in the middle East and Europe. Even though some governments have bent to the United Nation's pressure and now have a law in place prohibiting FGM practice, it is a tradition very resistant to change. It can only be fought from within the tribes. It will take many years to completely eradicate it from the face of the earth.
So, we continue with our mission of empowering girls and women struggling to undo oppressive traditions in their communities, one of which is FGM. They are the only ones who can change what is regarded as unchangeable.
2010-2013
From 2010-2013, we have three main goals: 1. To sustain girls in school. 2. To buy a piece of land and build a safe and accessible center to all women and girls in East Africa 3. To make a field trip to Uganda and Kenya in 2012
